Lokesh Karekar is founder-director of LOCOPOPO Design Studio and a visual artist specializing
in illustration and design. After graduating from prestigious art school Sir. J. J. Institute of
Applied Arts, Mumbai, he initially worked for design firms like GrandmotherIndia and Alok
Nanda Company. In 2007 he started his independent studio Locopopo.
Locopopo does pure design projects like identity design to creating images, Illustrations for
brands, books, magazines and products. Lokesh's brand of contemporary graphics inspired by
traditional / modern India has attracted several projects from national and international
clients. His line of self-styled illustrative products: locopopo-shop is fueled by his unique
aesthetic sense and combination of local culture and wit. His design style is simple, bold,
sometimes bright and vibrant. It has a modern twist to the subject and touch of humor to the
design. He experiments with new tools, techniques to enhance the project like paper-art,
collage, clay-modeling and many more.
His work has been featured by various publications, magazines and websites like Hindustran
times, The Telegraph, Timeout mumbai, IDN, creativegaga, kyoorius design magazine,
mumbaiboss, creativeroots, tadpolestore, masalachaionline etc. Last year his name was featured in Forbes - 30 under 30 list with leading young enterprenuers in India. He is also a co founder / editor of Indian visual art zine - Hundredpercent.
